York Museums

Initially recruited to run the Castle Museum, Stephen Feber was asked to set up the new museum service comprising the three main institutions between 1995 and 1998:

  • The Art Gallery including collections covering the City and the County C17th onwards
  • The Yorkshire Museum covering archaeology, natural sciences and astronomy
  • The Castle Museum, a social history museum about the City and the County.
The Service has; 170 staff, £3.2 million budget, 2 million collection items, and 700,000 visitors across all sites.
